DiscNS, formerly the Nova Scotia Disc Sports Society, is the governing body for Disc Sports in Nova Scotia. Our goal is to promote participation in Disc Sports throughout Nova Scotia, as well as to provide resource, policy, and a unified voice for players leagues, clubs, and all members of the disc sport community. DiscNS is a member of the national governing body of ultimate, Ultimate Canada.
Disc sports include many sports that are played with flying discs. The most popular sports are ultimate (commonly known as ultimate frisbee) and disc golf. Some other disc sports include goaltimate, double disc court, and guts.
Disc sports, under the governing body of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), have been fully recognized by the International Olympic Committee since 2015.
Serve as the governing body for disc sports, such as ultimate and disc golf, representing the interests of these sports and the interests of all players to both government and non-government institutions
Promote the growth of disc sports throughout the province of Nova Scotia, including educational programs
Encourage and support the participation of individuals, teams, and organizations in disc sports in Nova Scotia
Promote the spirit of the game as a primary aspect of all disc sports
Provide a wide range of opportunities for all who wish to participate in disc sports, regardless of their skill level or motivation
Promote ultimate within the youth community, including the development of juniors teams and programs in schools through the DiscNS Juniors Committee
Provide a means to facilitate open and continuous communication within disc sports networks and the wider sports community
Provide liability insurance to all eligible disc sports teams in Nova Scotia who have registered with the society
Act as the vehicle through which the ongoing activities of disc sports in Nova Scotia are organized, including overseeing competitions
Join and comply with all aspects of Sport Nova Scotia and Ultimate Canada
DiscNS is a grassroots member organization. All individual members of our affiliated leagues, clubs and groups become members of DiscNS. All Ultimate player members of DiscNS are grassroots members of Ultimate Canada.
